The HIA Forum provides an opportunity for those with an interest in HIA to meet, share experiences, hear about new developments and consider how to progress HIA.

This session will consider how HIA fits into the policy making agenda.  The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) will co-host this event and provide an opportunity to hear about a recent HIA undertaken on a health policy.  Case examples from Scotland and England will also be presented.

This event will be co-hosted with the Public Health Agency as part of the Focus on Health Inequalities month.  It will take place at the Island Civic Centre, Lisburn.  It will consider how HIA can be used as a tool to work with local government on health inequalities.  Guest speakers include Dr Eddie Rooney and Mr Seamus Mullen, Public Health Agency and Mr Liam Hannaway, Banbridge District Council.

How HIA can support local government and health promotion action on sustainable travel will be the focus of the HIA Forum Meeting on 4 November 2010, Cork.

This will be co-hosted with HSE South and focus on sustainable travel. This event will present some practical examples of how HIA can be used to support sustainable travel

The aim of this meeting is to provide participants with the opportunity to hear about and discuss how HIA can support action on health inequalities. Join us for what promises to be a lively and informative discussion:

·         Ensuring health equity is considered in policies developed both within and outside the health system is an issue of concern for the World Health Organisation. We are delighted to welcome Sarah Simpson to present an overview of work conducted by WHO in this area.

Applications are now closed for the next Health Impact Assessment training course.

The course will take place 8th – 10th February 2010 in Dublin and interest those working in public health, central and local government and community and voluntary sectors.
