Energy Action Fuel Poverty Conference Feburary 7th-8th 2011
Start: 7 Feb 2011 - 00:00
End: 8 Feb 2011 - 23:59
Energy Action will hold a two-day Fuel Poverty Conference in Dublin Castle on 7th-8th Feb 2011. Eamon Ryan TD. Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources will host the conference and will perform the opening address.
The conference will focus on addressing fuel poverty in Ireland as a matter of urgency. The introduction of the carbon tax on electricity and heating costs in 2010 has further exacerbated the problems (health and monetary) for the fuel poor. These households, due to low income and possibly debt will not have the funds needed to avail of HES schemes or retrofitting measures.
The event will examine the health implications of fuel poverty and also consider how best to identify and deliver sustainable solutions to the on-going problem of cold, damp and expensive to heat homes in this country. It will focus on the necessary steps to provide solutions for the thousands of people across the country that live in or at risk of fuel poverty.
The Conference will facilitate dialogue between policy makers, local authorities, politicians, health experts, building practitioners, energy utilities and various agencies supporting vulnerable people. It will review current best practice and existing policy in addressing Fuel Poverty/Energy Affordability by drawing on lessons and experiences from Ireland, Northern Ireland, the UK and Europe. A number of workshops will be held during the conference. The conference will be attended by policy makers, local authorities, utility companies, NGO’s, health practitioners, private contractors including UK/Northern Irish players, and politicians from both north and south of the border.
