INIsPHO Lunchtime Seminar Series 2007
Neil Riley
Head of Health Information and Intelligence
Wales Centre for Health
Recently, the public health system in Wales was reviewed in order to identify national functions in health where a number of organisations and services overlap and to make recommendations for changes that can improve efficiency, effectiveness and value for money.
The Assembly Government's vision is ‘to have at the heart of improving health in Wales, a national centre for knowledge management, expert advice and information. This centre will encompass health improvement, health protection and healthcare quality. By promoting an evidence-based culture and developing programmes in partnership with the NHS, local government and others, we will place quality services in the forefront of delivering world class healthcare to the people of Wales by 2015.
These two statements represent the driving factors for changes currently underway within the Welsh Public Health System.
In this talk, Neil Riley will give a view of past, present and possible futures of the public health system in Wales with some lessons that may be applicable in other jurisdictions. Following his talk there will be time for questions and answers, and open discussion.
The seminar ends with coffee & sandwiches.
