Developing a Community Profile: Guidelines
Belfast Healthy Cities developed this guidance in response to Community Health Impact Assessments carried out in Northern Ireland in 2004. The guidelines provide a framework to enable organisations develop a community health profile within their own area. This tool is an excellent guide when developing a community profile in a HIA setting. -
Rapid Appraisal Tool
This tool was developed by an experienced HIA practitioner, Erica Ison to provide a task-based approach to appraisal in HIA. This comprehensive tool provides practical guidance within the scoping and appraisal stages of HIA and is an excellent resource for organisations. The tool may be downloaded here. -
HIA Desktop Interactive Tool
The HSE South (formerly South Eastern Health Board) has developed a rapid appraisal toolkit. This resource provides a framework to assist groups to look at the potential health impacts of an identified proposal. The interactive tool can be downloaded here. - IPH - HIA tools
The Institute of Public Health in Ireland has produced a range of HIA tools to support those conducting HIA:- Screening - determines if a HIA should be conducted.
- Scoping - provides a guide to questions which should be asked at the scoping stage of the HIA process.
- Appraisal:
- Collating information - provides a framework to collate all the information collected during the appraisal stage.
- Prioritising potential health impacts - presents a framework on prioritising health impacts.
- Forming recommendations - provides a framework for developing recommendations and disseminating to decision-makers.
- Reviewing the implementation of HIA recommendations - provides a framework to review how HIA recommendations have been implemented.
- Screening - determines if a HIA should be conducted.
